KShocolat

Maybe the 21st century has made a lot of people look at everyday commodities in a new way. It certainly worked for Glasgow-based Kshocolat. Yes, chocolate can be seen as a luxury item but, when you think about it, it often has a kind of comforting, almost old-fashioned, image. Not any more. Kshocolat had a big idea about chocolate. Now they do cool things with it.

First, they source unusual or unique chocolate products from around the world. Then they get really creative. It might be with clever packaging or they might take the chocolate material and treat or finish it in a certain way to make it even more appealing and tastier. Sometimes it also involves recipes with a chocolate theme or element.

Whatever the finished product line is, the result is very distinctive, definitely different and aimed at the luxury end of the market. You can browse through Kshocolat shops in Glasgow and Edinburgh but also find the distinctive Kshocolat lines in a range of other outlets, including delicatessens, specialist food outlets and larger stores such as Harvey Nichols.

A particular company strength is a kind of on-going creativity. Not content to stick with a limited product range, there is a constant drive to innovate and push the boundaries, to play around with the traditional associations of flavours. Who else could have developed white chocolate with lemon and black pepper, for instance? At the same time, there is an acknowledgement of the history of chocolate itself – a nod towards the ancient Aztecs by way of their chocolate and chilli – perhaps the oldest known chocolate recipe, this time with almonds rolled in fresh red chilli and covered in milk chocolate.

In all these round-the-world flavours there is also room for traditional Scottish fudge and tablet – vanilla and butterscotch as well as chocolate orange, not necessarily a variety that granny would have thought of making. But that’s so Kshocolat, taking a product and interpreting it in their own special way, so that even a simple bar of chocolate becomes a taste adventure.

Sophisticated and irresistible, it’s simply 21st century chocolate.
