The island chain of the Outer Hebrides is somewhere you can be assured of beautiful scenery, a warm welcome and, of course, fine seasonal produce. The most northerly is Lewis, largest of the islands - travel south to find Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra. Each have their own unique qualities and deserve to be explored fully.
There’s also a strong tradition of smoking and preserving food. Uist is particularly well served: the Hebridean Smokehouse, selling superb, delicately flavoured peat-smoked salmon and sea trout, is at Locheport on North Uist; while at South Uist’s Salar Smokehouse at Lochcarnan you can try their multiple award-winning flaky smoked salmon.

Try a local ale brewed in the Hebrides. Clansman, Islander, Celtic Black and Berserker Export Pale Ale all have their own unique qualities. The latter was based on one of the Lewis Chessman Rooks - depicting a Berserker chewing his shield - discovered at the head of Uig Bay in 1831!
