Foodies Festival 2012

foodies-2012Edinburgh’s fantastic Foodies Festival takes place between 10-12 August and has a few surprises on the menu making it one of Scotland’s most anticipated food events of the summer.

Watch a host of renowned chefs, including Neil Forbes, Cafe St Honore in Edinburgh and Marc Robertson, Dakota Forth Bridge Hotel in South Queensferry, take to the stage for fun and informative cookery demonstrations in the hourly Chef’s Theatre. Pick-up even more hints and tips from masterclasses in the Food and Drink Theatre tents and try delicious dishes in the expert-led tasting sessions.

One of the festival highlights is the huge array of tents offering bite-size samples of sumptuous food and drink. Choose from restaurant tents, world food pagodas, stalls run by some of Scotland’s top producers and wash it all down with a few glasses from the wine village.

Take the whole family for a great gastronomic day out at Foodies, with free entry for children under 16. Kids will love the on-site city beach, complete with enough sand to build sand castles to their heart’s content and all the ice cream they could want being served from brightly coloured beach huts. Improve your al fresco cookery skills with classes on how to produce the perfect barbeque from beautiful bangers to succulent burgers.

Relax with a movie at the festival’s pop-up Food of Love Cinema that will be showing the best food films of all time. During the screening, tapas-style taster dishes of the food and drink featured in the films will be served so you can eat along with the movie stars - enjoy pizza during Moonstruck, noodles during Blade Runner and cream pies and sarsaparilla during Bugsy Malone.

Foodies Festival will also feature burlesque food fight shows with renowned cabaret stars Missy Malone and Cherry Shakewell performing an exclusive routine at the festival. Why not get involved in the foray at one of the charity food fight sites complete with gooey custard pies and cream cakes?
