News | Golden Spurtle Winner Crowned
Ian Bishop has been crowned World Porridge Making Champion after 15 years making porridge for the annual competiion.
Scooping the coveted Golden Spurtle, he revealed he had used the water from a bore hole tapped 100ft into an underground river near his home in Carrbridge, Strathspey.
Mr Bishop said: "It shows determination and perseverance eventually pays. It has obviously taken a few years to get it right."
He added: "My secret ingredient is the water, which comes from a bore hole in my garden.
"It's local water which made the best porridge."
To win the Golden Spurtle, the porridge had to be traditional - made with oatmeal, salt and water.
The winner of the Speciality Porridge meanwhile was Addy Daggert.
A chef by trade, he made his special porridge with a mixture of marzipan, home-made ice cream and an 18-year-old Glenfiddich.
