Three more Scottish restaurants awarded Michelin stars
Fri, 17 Feb 2012
Three of Scotland’s top restaurants have been awarded Michelin Stars in the new 2012 Michelin Guide.
The additions place Edinburgh as the city with the second highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants outside London, along with Dublin - each city now has five establishments in the guide. This announcement means Scotland now has 16 Michelin-starred restaurants and five Bib Gourmand eateries.
Castle Terrace Restaurant added the fifth Michelin star to Edinburgh’s collection. The restaurant quickly became renowned in the fine dining world after only opening in July 2010. Castle Terrace is The Kitchin’s sister restaurant and Chef Patron Dominic Jack showcases the finest Scottish produce in his outstanding seasonal dishes - both restaurants following the ethos ‘From Nature to Plate’.
Glenapp Castle hotel in Ballantrae, Ayrshire added a Michelin star to its recently awarded four AA Rosettes. Since the appointment of Head Chef Adam Stokes in 2008, Glenapp’s restaurant has won numerous awards for its modern and innovative cuisine, including an EatScotland Gold Award.
Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond, at Cameron House near Glasgow, is also awarded a Michelin star in the 2012 guide. Martin Wishart, whose self-named restaurant became Edinburgh first Michelin-starred establishment in 2001, created the fine-dining restaurant which is run by Head Chef Stewart Boyles. Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond has also won an EatScotland Gold Award this year.
Stravaigin in Glasgow has been commended as Scotland’s fifth Bib Gourmand eatery - the award recognises great food at good value. The other Bib Gourmand establishments in Scotland are The Dogs in Edinburgh, Kilberry in Argyll, Osso in the Scottish Borders and Sorn in Ayrshire.
