Scottish Chef Awards
Charles Lockley of Boath House in Auldearn near Inverness was the surprise winner of the 13th annual Scottish Chef of the Year Award.
Charles beat a host of established chefs to pick up the accolade for his cooking at the eight-bedroom hotel, which opened just 12 years ago by Wendy and Don Matheson. Charles completes an unique double at the awards – he was Hotel Chef of the Year in 2007.
Boath House is a beautiful country house hotel offering a six-course, daily changing menu, taking advantage of seasonal produce and specialities wherever possible.
Charles also has a covetted Michelin Star and 4AA rosettes.
The Scottish Chef Awards are sponsored by The Cookery School in Glasgow. Organiser Brian Hannan commented: "With last year’s winner coming from Dumfries & Galloway, and this year’s winner from the north, there couldn’t be a better demonstration of how good a destination Scotland is for top quality cooking.
"I’ve watched Charles grow as a chef over the years. He is humble about his talent, always saying he lets the ingredients do the talking, but this is cooking that shouts from the rooftops."
