New Regal Whisky Experience
Mon, 28 Mar 2011
In the lead up to the Royal Weddings in London and Edinburgh, visitors to the Scotch Whisky Experience enjoyed some specially selected whiskies which, through the ages, have been given the royal seal of approval. A special version of the SWE's Gold Tour entitled Scotland's Majestic Malts is available every day throughout April highlighting the regal heritage of Scotch Whisky.
Guests enjoyed the whisky tour including a visit to the Diageo Claive Vidiz Scotch Whisky Collection; the world's largest collection of Scotch Whiskies which includes many bottlings associated with the Royal Family from the commemorative Bells' Decanters to unique special limited editions. Following the tour, visitors will enjoy a tasting tray of 4 specially selected Whiskies each with a royal story to tell.
Scotch Whisky's Royal Heritage
The Royal Family has had a close relationship with the 'Water of Life' throughout the centuries from the infamous visit of King George IV hosted by Sir Walter Scott in 1822, through Queen Victoria's reign right up to the present day.
In more recent years, each summer the Royal Yacht Britannia would set sale for the Western Isles of Scotland for The Queen's annual holiday cruise. While the Royal Family was cruising, the Royal Household would move from Buckingham Palace to their northern home at Balmoral to prepare for the arrival of The Queen and her family.
Enjoy a tasting in the footsteps of royalty and savour the unique characteristics of a regal selection of malts and blends.
Tasting tray includes 1 deluxe blended Scotch Whisky and 3 single malts;
The Chivas brothers who created Chivas Regal were licensed grocers and the official suppliers of provisions to Balmoral Castle.
King George IV regularly requested Glenlivet when he visited Scotland in 1822.
Royal Lochnagar was the favoured tipple of Queen Victoria when she made her home at Balmoral near the distillery.
Laphroaig is reputed to be the favourite Malt of Prince Charles and bears the Royal Seal of the Prince of Wales.
