Michelin Star for Highland Chefs
Two West Highland chefs have become Scotland’s youngest to win a Michelin star for outstanding cuisine.
Ross Sutherland (24) from Fort William and Graham Campbell (26) from Oban earned the accolade for their cooking at Ballachulish House Hotel.
The Michelin judges visited the hotel last year, before it closed to be sold as a private dwelling. Joint head chefs Ross and Graham left Ballachulish House in early December.
On taking the award together, Graham commented: "The Michelin judge had a meal and breakfast next morning, then spoke to us about our sourcing policy and style. We both ran the kitchen so we decided that if we won a star we would both take it.
"We took the view that we were not working towards a star specially – if we got it we got it, if we didn’t, we didn’t. We did – and now we are the youngest stars in Scotland.
"It’s nice to have your work appreciated."
Graham is now poised to join Duisdale House Hotel near Broadford, Skye, to run its revamped kitchen.
And he has big plans for Duisdale. "We’re hoping to get the Isle of Skye its first Michelin star within two years - and within five years I hope to run and own Scotland’s first three Michelin star restaurant."
