Top Award For Loch Fyne Oysters Founder
Andy Lane, one of the founders of Loch Fyne Oysters, recieved a top honour at the launch of the 2008 edition of the List’s Eating & Drinking Guide.
The Judges' Special Award, reserved for Scottish food heroes, comes as the firm prepares to mark 30 years running its traditional smokehouse in Argyll, rearing and preparing its own oysters and mussels.
Andy was instrumental in ensuring Loch Fyne Oysters was bought over by its own employees following the death of fellow founder Johnny Noble in 2002.
The award recognised his dedication to sustainable farming and contribution to the local economy.
He said: “It is an honour to receive such a great award simply for having a passion for my work.
“The award coming in the year of Loch Fyne Oysters’ 30th birthday is great timing and is recognition for the whole team.”
Andy follows in the footsteps of famed Scottish cheesemonger Iain J Mellis to become the second recipient of the List award.
Donald Reid, editor of The List Eating & Drinking Guide, said: “Scotland has produced its share of food heroes over the years.
“Andy Lane deserves his place among them and we hope our award goes some way towards recognising his contributions to ethical championing of rural Scottish produce in Great Britain and internationally.”
