FEAST 2012 took place on 28 April was a collaboration between Queen Margaret University and Jewel & Esk College which saw the future stars of the culinary world join forces with the country’s best chefs to produce a fantastic foodie event.
The festival was supported by an impressive line-up of experts including John Paul (executive chef at the MacDonald Marine Hotel, North Berwick) and Yogesh Utekar, one of India’s most talented chefs.
This year’s festival celebrated Scotland’s fantastic food and drink with an exciting range of delicious Scottish menus to sample. The regional delights included Selkirk Bannock bread and butter pudding from the Borders and beef and haggis crofter’s pie from Perthshire.
Ron McGilp, Curriculum Development Manager at Jewel & Esk College, said: “This is not only an excellent learning opportunity for Jewel & Esk College and Queen Margaret University students who will be working with chefs to produce the regional dishes on the day, it’s an outstanding opportunity to see and hear from some of Scotland’s most inspiring and well established chefs as well as some rising stars of the Scottish culinary scene.”
Bernie Quinn, Hospitality and Tourism lecturer at Queen Margaret University, added: “Once again, we are delighted to be working in partnership with JEC to provide outstanding opportunities for our students, nurture young talent, showcase new talent and promote and enjoy Scotland’s rich larder.
“By introducing people to a variety of imaginative regional dishes and allowing them to taste test locally produced drinks, we hope this event encourages people to support Scottish producers by spending their money locally, experiment with cooking local foods and enjoy Scotland’s wonderful produce.”
The festival also featured an array of cookery demonstrations by some of Scotland’s top chefs who will share handy hints and tips. There was also expert tutor-led wine tasting sessions to showcase the country’s brilliant drinks.
