Traditional Dishes | Irn-Bru

Irn BruIRN-BRU (pronounced “iron brew”) is a popular carbonated soft drink with a unique, indescribable and original great taste produced in Scotland by A.G. Barr p.l.c.  Most soft drinks contain only one flavour; however, IRN-BRU was launched in 1901 containing 32.  IRN-BRU is still made to a secret recipe known by only three people in the world and for safe-keeping the recipe is also kept in a bank vault at an undisclosed location.

IRN-BRU commands a leading place in Scotland where it is a part of everyday life. It is seen by many as part of the culture of the Scottish nation - and is known as 'Scotland's Other National Drink'.  In 2011 over 200m litres of IRN-BRU were sold - the equivalent of 10 cans for every person in the UK.

IRN-BRU is popular outside Scotland as well, sold in over 45 countries worldwide with key international markets including Russia, Spain, Ireland, Australia, USA & Middle East.  Russia is the biggest export market for IRN-BRU and the brand has been selling successfully there for over 15 years.

Throughout the years IRN-BRU's maverick advertising has continued to entertain fans at home and abroad.  The unique humour in IRN-BRU's advertising has won it many awards over the years including The Scottish Advertising Awards Grand Prix 2007 for the Snowman Advert.

In the same year, IRN-BRU won several 'Best in the last 21 years awards' including Best Brand, Best Slogan for 'Made in Scotland from Girders', Best Radio Commercial, Best Poster and Best Advertising Campaign for 'See What IRN-BRU can do for you'.  In 2011 the first ever limited edition IRN-BRU was launched in its 111 year history. Named 'Fiery IRN-BRU', it went on to sell over 3.5m units.
