City Drinking | Inverness

The capital of the Highlands is dominated by the red sandstone castle that is perched above the city – and by the quick-flowing River Ness that flows through the centre. Inverness has been growing at a fast and furious pace in recent years, with suburbs spreading upwards and outwards. Yet the centre is still small enough to make it easy to visit a few of the increasing number of new bars that are opening up, as well as some old haunts, often with live music. If you arrive by train, you don’t need to stagger far for refreshment as many of the pubs can be found in and around Academy Street, near to the station.
