Having read the hype about the Anstruther Fish Bar I was extremely disappointed by the standard of food my family were served a couple of weekends ago. The fish had disintegrated within the too heavy batter and the chips were so dry as to be unrecognisable as potato. We should have stuck to our original plan and visited The Waterfront towards the other end of the main road; boasts a fine restaurant as well as the takeaway and their fish pie is among the finest I have ever eaten. We won't be returning.

The chip sauce that is used in Edinburgh chippies is second to none and is much better than the traditional salt and vinegar. One Italian chippie owner once told me that the recipe is a secret!

Most greasy fish supper I ever had was from Wee Hurrie in Troon, despite waiting in a queue for 45 minutes - not recommended. Harry Ramsden's in Glasgow is consistently excellent for take away but the interior of the restaurant could do with an overhaul!

"The Wee Hurrie" Is without a doubt thee best chippy i have ever been to! Myself and my boyfriend both thought the same. Brilliant food and as fresh as can be! The only problem was the queue to get in the place as we waited about 40 minutes but once we got in, we realised what the hold up was! The blonde server who was stocking the juice fridge which didn't need to be stocked and the other server who was randomly just walking about the chippy like she was a lost child in a shopping mall ! The queue would of gone down much quicker if they stopped faffing about!

Went to the "Wee Hurrie" yesterday after being told how good it was. Did not enjoy the experience - not cheap, had to wait (thankfully not 45 mins. otherwise we would have walked out). The fish was nothing to write home about and the chips were AWFUL. Just like wedges without skins - why not 'chip-shaped', didn't taste nice - had to leave half of them. We'll not be back in a "Hurrie" - get your act together. Best F+C recently was at the "Inn at Inverbeg".

I live in stonehaven, sandy's fish and chips has the common misconception of being the chippy which invented the deep fried mars bar but this is untrue, it was the carron, formerly known as the haven which came up with this creation. Sandy's fish and chips has only recently started doing deep fried mars bars. Sandy's has also changed the way they cook their fish recently and whilst I used to enjoy a fish supper the new batter they are using is oily and often too thick making me think I have a bigger fish always a disappointment when you cut into the batter and the fish is half the size!

Eat More Fish in Callander was a shocking disappointment. I tried Salt and Pepper Squid and when it was brought out I really wished I hadnt. Most of the squid had no breading on it, and was so overcooked and tough that I left most of it on the plate uneaten. When asked if everything was okay both of us at the table commented on how there was no breading on the squid and it was tough, and the response was "so all good". No not all good. The chips were also less than impressive. For a brilliant fish and chips, Ocean Fish and Chips in Stirling. This will learn me for trying somewhere different.
