Venison book a ‘classic in the making’
Food writer Nichola Fletcher has been recognised for her authoritative venison cookery book at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
At a champagne ceremony in London, Nichola Fletcher’s Ultimate Venison Cookery scooped the title of Best Single Subject Cookery Book in the World.
With more than 30 years of experience working with Venison, Nichola’s book was described as a classic in the making.
Ultimate Venison Cookery was last month short-listed from 33 countries for the ‘best in country’ category, before taking the world title.
Accepting her award, Nichola said: “I am thrilled that my book has been singled out for such an honour.
“I believe that venison is one of the most misunderstood meats of all; so much wrong information has been written about it.
“It has been my life’s work to reveal venison in its true colours – a wonderfully healthy, humanely produced meat that does not destroy the environment and that is actually really easy to cook.”
As well as running venison specialists Fletchers of Auchtermuchty, Nichola gives demonstrations and workshops all over the world on how to get the most from venison.
She said of the awards: “One of the best things of all is that these awards are not geared towards glitzy celebrity TV chefs; they are truly global and given to genuine experts in their subjects.
“I am just so glad that venison has made it to the top.”
Nichola will be demonstrating venison cookery at the Game Conservatory’s Scottish Fair in July, and at the Edinburgh Festival.
