Traquair House

Traquair Brewery

Traquair House is Scotland's oldest inhabited house and home to a traditional brewery which produces a range of award winning ales. The brewery was originally an 18th century domestic brewery producing beer for the house and estate workers. It fell into disuse soon after 1800 but the vessels and equipment remained untouched until it was rediscovered in 1965.

Traquair ales are brewed in the traditional production process made from malted barley, hops, yeast and pure spring water from an underground spring on the hills of the Traquair Estate. No preservatives or enzymes are used in the manufacture of the ales. The product range includes Bear Ale, Traquair Jacobite Ale, and Traquair House Ale with other draught ales including Festival Ale, Fair Ale and Wedding Ale are brewed for special occasions. Sixty percent of Traquair's sales are domestic while the remaining ales are exported around the world to the U., Canada, Japan, Sweden, Singapore, Holland, Denmark, Finland and Greece.

In addition Traquair House offers historical interest and splendid grounds which include a walled garden and the woodland walk which boasts some of the oldest yew trees in Scotland.  Better still take the opportunity of a tour around one of the oldest working breweries in Britain where all the delicious Traquair House Ales are available to sample and purchase. Also set in Traquair grounds are several independent craft shops, the Traquair gift shop and the Traquair brewery shop for souvenirs.
