The Kitchin wins Best UK Restaurant 2010

Tom and Michaela KitchinTom Kitchin's eponymous restaurant The Kitchin has been named restaurant of the year by Observer Food Monthly.

The success of the restaurant is down to the unique combination of the finest seasonal Scottish produce and the classical French techniques which Kitchin mastered when working alongside some of the world's greatest chefs.

A delighted Tom Kitchin, who runs The Kitchin with his wife Michaela, said, "I have had to fight a constant battle to get my hands on the ingredients I need because they all go to London. We have some of the best ingredients in the world here in Scotland but the challenge is to stop them heading south."

Talking about sourcing the perfect lobster from a supplier, who refused to let him have any even though they were being landed only a few minutes from the door of his restaurant. He said, "Eventually I had to tell him to come and eat here as my guest to see exactly what it is we were trying to do." He had his lobsters.

Awarded a Michelin star in January 2007, six months after opening, The Kitchin is constantly looking at exciting ways of improving and reinventing their menus with the freshest, seasonal produce, locally sourced wherever possible.
