Macsween launches 'convenience' haggis for vegetarians

Macsween of Edinburgh, the leading Scottish food brand, has launched a new microwaveable version of its award-winning vegetarian haggis. Aimed at the convenience market, the new product provides a tasty accompaniment to the existing 1-minute traditional haggis launched in 2009.

The veggie equivalent is now being sold alongside the Macsween range in selected Asda and Tesco stores in Scotland.

Jo Macsween, Director of Macsween said: 'The moment we launched the traditional 1-minute haggis last year, our customers starting asking us when they would see its vegetarian equivalent. So, here it is, no additions, no subtractions ' just tasty, vegetarian haggis in an easy to use pack. Just pop it in the microwave for one minute and you can enjoy our tasty award winning vegetarian haggis alongside or instead of our traditional product. It's perfect for those looking for an easy to prepare all year round dish or alternative Burns Night supper.'

The two slices are made according to John Macsween's original 1984 recipe, which has become the standard against which other vegetarian haggis is judged. Its popularity with the food industry and consumers is reflected in the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards Gold Stars in 2008, 2009 and 2010 as well as the 'Best Vegetarian Society Approved Convenience Food' award in 2009.

Sales of Macsween 1-minute haggis are exceeding expectations, with many people sampling traditional or vegetarian haggis for the first time, even outside of the annual Burns Night festivities. Long standing haggis eaters are also buying more frequently, because they appreciate the smaller portions or are time pressed.
