Mull celebr-eights as Michelin Guide gives island the thumbs-up
Mull is celebrating the quality of its tourism accommodation and food after no fewer than eight hotels and restaurants on the island were listed in one of the UK's top guidebooks.
The recommendations in the 2011 edition of the iconic Michelin Guide follow Mull's successes in last year's Scottish Thistle Awards - Scotland's 'Tourism Oscars' - when it had finalists in three categories.
The Guide, first published 100 years ago, lists Highland Cottage hotel and restaurant, The Water's Edge restaurant, Sonas House Bed & Breakfast and Brockville Bed & Breakfast (all Tobermory), Ninth Wave restaurant (Fionnphort), Gruline Home Farm Bed & Breakfast, Birchgrove Bed & Breakfast (near Craignure) and Tiroran House hotel.
Ian McKilligan, spokesman for the tourism association of Mull and Iona (Holiday Mull & Iona), commented: 'The Michelin Guide listings and awards are remarkable for an island with a population of just 2,700, and again highlight the consistently high standard of our accommodation.'
The Michelin Guide recommends a large and diverse selection of hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and pubs in all price categories and across every region of the UK and Ireland.
Last year Seaview B & B at Fionnphort won the Scottish Thistle Awards' customer service category for 'Extra Mile - Small Business, Treshnish and Haunn cottages near Calgary was a finalist in the Sustainable Tourism category, and Ninth Wave was a runner-up in the Taste of Scotland category.
