Blog | Scottish Food’s Never Been So Good

Now in its second year at Glasgow’s SECC, the BBC’s Good Food Show Scotland has got to be a highlight in any foodie’s calendar.

Spread over three days, the festival celebrates and educates on all things culinary this country has to offer, from 31 October - 2 November.

Following in the footsteps of the venue’s previous food festival, Foodfest, the Good Food Show Scotland ticks all the boxes of today’s demand for local produce, seasonal flair and celebrity chefs.

The crème de la crème of Scotland’s chefs take turns to put their Michelin Stars aside and demonstrate some up close and honest cooking in the Winter Kitchen. Watching chefs like Brian Maules and Nick Nairn, or Gleneagles’ Andrew Fairlie, give away some of their secrets is worth the cover charge alone, not to mention an audience with the formidably talented Gordon Ramsay.

Other highlights worth noting include Visit Drinks, where the finest beers, wines and whiskies will be up for sampling, with many apparently not yet available in the shops. In amongst producers like Heather Ales, Martha’s Vineyard and Wines of Chile, expect a decent representation of the best organic and fair-trade suppliers too.

Key attractions include the Producer’s Village, a selection of small markets catering for seasonal Scottish fayre, Henrietta Green’s Food Lovers Fair and, interestingly, the Slow Food Bursary Pavilion, a movement to show that good food should be savoured, not rushed.

Over the three days, don’t miss Whisky Live, Scotland’s tasting event of the year, which showcases some of the world’s top whiskies as well as offerings from the lesser-known distilleries. Head over to the Smoked-filled Rooms, a tasting session with an emphasis on the importance of smoked food in Scottish culture.

As far as demonstrations go, Leith’s Tom Kitchin will draw a crowd with his hugely popular “from nature to plate” philosophy.

Needless to say this looks like a great weekend in Glasgow, so grab a ticket before they disappear and get ready for a feast of culinary delights!
